My (non) beaded knitted sweater

August 21, 2012 · 6 comments

I LOVED the shape of this little raglan sleeve vintage knitted sweater from ‘Vintage knits’ by Sarah Dallas. The actual pattern is knitted in a 4 ply wool yarn and is beaded but I wanted to knit something summery and casual so I decided to make it up without the beads in some pretty pale yellow cotton glace yarn that I bought years ago (before I even started knitting properly!) just because I liked the colour so much.

I had to reduce the needle size half a size because the cotton glace knitted up a little bigger than a 4 ply wool. I also lengthened the body 5cm as it is a typical cropped vintage silhouette and I have quite a long body and absolutely no desire to show off my midriff! This is such a simple pattern and it was so quick to knit up. Overall I am really pleased and will definitely get lots of wear out of this.

I love short sleeved little sweaters in general as thay have such vintage charm. So far I think this little jumper looks best with jeans- although I am thinking it would probably be cute with a pencil skit. I have my eye on Beignet by Colette patterns which I may sew up soon- I think these would be a super cute pair.

Next I think I will knit something with a pattern (maybe some lace!) as this was my third stockinette project in a row and while its nice and easy it does tend to get a little tedious after a while. Mmmmmmm time to peruse my¬† knitting books…

Beautiful! That’s such a flattering colour, too. You are so talented – knitting, AND sewing to such a high standard.

Where can I get this lovely pattern. You can do so much with it but I love the simplicity of its shape.
