This is my latest completed knitting project: Nancy from the Finesse collection in Rowan knitting magazine 50 designed by Erika Knight. Finesse is described as a collection ‘inspired by the retro influences of the late 1950’s and early 1960’s…that heralds a return to feminine curves’.
I love so many of the designs in this collection which isn’t entirely surprising as this is my favourite era for fashion!
I just finished this cardigan despite having started it back in August! I was actually sat knitting this super fluffy warm cardigan in a massive heat wave with a fan pointing at me and covering me in the angora fluff! Then I did what I always seem to do with my knitting projects and sat on the sewing it up part.
I LOVE looking through my knitting pattern books and dreaming up new knitting projects and I really enjoy the knitting itself- but by the time it comes to sewing up the panels I am too impatient to find my next project and always lose steam. So there it sat all peach and fluffy and sad for a couple of months while I started knitting my mother’s Christmas present and testing out tension squares for my next jumper.
The pattern for this Rowan Nancy cardigan is designed for Rowan Cashsoft 4 ply which I have knitted with before and is so lovely but I had already found my dream wool from Dragon Yarns. It is a 100% angora 4ply in peach which is my absolute favourite colour!
Although it’s called a 4 ply when I tested the tension I found I got a much better result when I used the yarn double with the same needles size as the pattern. Single may well have been fine but the yarn definitely felt more like a 2ply/ lace weight to me and I wanted solid peach fluff!
I absolutely love my peach Nancy cardigan! It’s peach, super soft and fluffy and so 1950s and twee! What’s not to love! Nancy is even one of my favourite names!
I particularly like the little neck tie and I definitely plan on knitting this cardigan up in a cotton for the spring, I think it would be nice in pretty much any pastel colour.
Meanwhile I have already started on ‘Betty’ from the same collection which I am knitting in winter white Kidsilk Haze used double. I have nearly finished my Mother’s Christmas present too (luckily as not long to go now!) which I will upload after I have given it to her.
Life is so much better with a knitting project on the go… don’t you think?!
